Urgent appeal: Murder Eltham

Five people have been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a teenager in Eltham on Tuesday, 11 December.

A murder investigation is underway after the victim, aged 18, died in hospital.

He was attacked in Alwold Crescent, Greenwich SE12 following reports of armed youths in the street at around 21:50hrs.

Officers attended. A short while later two males, both believed to be aged 18, attended a south London hospital with stab injuries.

The first male died in hospital. His next of kin have been informed.

A post-mortem examination will be held later today and we await formal identification.

The second male was treated in hospital and has since been discharged. His injuries were not deemed to be life changing.

Five people have been arrested on suspicion of murder. They remain in custody.

They are:

[A] A 22-year-old man [B] A 29-year-old woman [C] A 53-year-old woman [D] A 56-year-old man [E] A 31-year-old man.

Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command, led by DCI Simon Harding, are investigating.

DCI Harding said: "We are at the very early stages of our investigation into this tragic murder. We urgently need to hear from anyone who saw what happened in Alwold Crescent.

"We have already spoken to a number of people as part of our initial enquiries, but we would like to hear from anyone who lives near the scene who saw anything that might assist our investigation to contact us. Did you see either group going to and from the scene? Did you see the fight? Perhaps you saw something after the incident that in retrospect may be linked. We would urge you to get in touch right away.”
