Urgent Appeal By Police in Charlton

Police are appealing for information and witnesses after a female was hit over the head with a machete by an unknown male in Charlton this evening.

Police were called at 19:18hrs on Friday, 16 November to Rathmore Road Charlton SE7 following reports of a female having been attacked.

Officers attended with London Ambulance Service colleagues.

A female aged in her 50s had suffered a cut to her head after being attacked with a machete.

The suspect, who is uknown to the victim, approached from behind and attacked the victim before making off in the direction of Woolwich Road.

The victim was taken to a south London hospital; her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The suspect is described as an Asian male, aged in his 30s, of heavy build. He may be wearing a tanned jacket.

Police continue to work to trace the suspect but ask anyone with information, or who may have seen someone matching the description of the male, to call police immediately.
